Community Spotlights: Weather and Climate Information and Services

By Katherine Cunningham, Joyce-Lynn Njinga

In April, Climatelinks highlighted the integral role weather and climate information and services play in building the resilience of people and communities to climate change impacts such as flooding and drought, as well as improving planning for water and natural resource management, agriculture and disasters.

We asked Climatelinks community members to share their work related to this topic, with a specific focus on tools and technologies that support the production, analysis, delivery and use of weather and climate information services, and approaches to improving the availability of and access to weather and climate services in vulnerable communities.

Below you will find these resources, including a link to the open access academic journal Climate Services, a UNDP climate information communications toolkit, an article that reviews a sample of more than 100 climate service activities generating a snapshot of the state of the field, an open access e-book showcasing the burgeoning area of applied research at the intersection between weather, climate science and the energy industry as well as an upcoming training course on the topic in Shanghai from May 18-20, and a regional PRECIS modelling system developed by UK’s Met Office, which is accessible to those without climate modelling experience.

If you have related resources to share, please do so in the comment box below this blog! Also, check out the USAID-supported weather and climate information and services related resources in the Climatelinks library and blog
