Gates Foundation Annual Letter Calls for Clean Energy Miracle
The Hill (2/23) reported on the Gates Foundation annual letter in which Bill Gates emphasized clean energy and called for an “energy miracle” to solve climate change and provide energy to those without.
The Washington Post (2/22) ran a piece on the fierce drought in Ethiopia, exacerbated by El Nino. The piece said the U.S. has been the most responsive donor – pledging $532 million in humanitarian aid to Ethiopia since October 2014 – but that food aid could run out as soon as May.
Time (2/12) reported that new research from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) says more than 5.5 million people die annually from air pollution, with most deaths occurring in China and India.
The Guardian (2/19) covered Christiana Figueres’ announcement to step down as U.N. Climate Change Secretariat once her six-year term comes to a close in July.
U.S. weather agency NOAA said in a report that January was the warmest on record and Arctic sea ice extent was the smallest on record.
NOAA (2/22) also wrote that climate change and the current intense El Nino are prolonging the longest coral bleaching event on record.
