USAID’s Resilient Waters Program and the Southern African Development Community’s Ground Water Institute (SADC-GMI) have been collaborating to enhance LIMCOM’s capacity to integrate groundwater initiatives into their transboundary management efforts.

The Matobo Hills is part of the upper Umzigwane in Zimbabwe, which is a key high-altitude catchment area in the Limpopo river basin. High altitude catchment areas are the main sources of water for a river basin, producing 100 times more water than lower lying areas, and also major storehouses of biodiversity.

Over the past 13 years, I have had the opportunity to work with the poorest communities across Zimbabwe. I have seen families struggling to adapt to the changing climate, as their livelihoods mainly depend on limited and dwindling natural resources. However, through asset creation, I have also seen incredible strength, resilience, and community dedication to improving communal resources and food security.
