Picture in April 2023, shows a rice farm in Majin Gari, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State (Long: 6.113753, Lat: 9.07204), Nigeria, by Salihu Idris (in the plot), was fertilized solely with biochar and compost, and no synthetic fertilizers, yielded 4.5 tons/ha, without any release of carbon emissions from the farming activity. The farmer, Salisu, is one of the participants of the USAID Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Activity implemented by Winrock International.

In the lead-up to the 2022 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 27th Conference of Parties (COP27), the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) will host its 187th public meeting, focused on the ongoing BIFAD-commissioned study on systemic solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation in agricultural, nutrition, and food systems. Registration is open for this October 26th meeting, and the public is invited to comment on preliminary findings.

Clean water is already hard to come by in the Korogocho slums of Nairobi, Kenya, but when heavy rainfall leads to flooding, it only exacerbates the situation. Clean water sources get contaminated, leaving residents vulnerable to many risks, including waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
