Picture in April 2023, shows a rice farm in Majin Gari, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State (Long: 6.113753, Lat: 9.07204), Nigeria, by Salihu Idris (in the plot), was fertilized solely with biochar and compost, and no synthetic fertilizers, yielded 4.5 tons/ha, without any release of carbon emissions from the farming activity. The farmer, Salisu, is one of the participants of the USAID Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Activity implemented by Winrock International.

InterAction Listening Session Marks One Year Anniversary of USAID's Climate Strategy

In April 2022, USAID released their new Climate Strategy which will guide the Agency’s approach to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, improving overall operations, and helping partner countries build resilience to climate change through 2030. In the lead-up to the 2022 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 27th Conference of Parties (COP27), the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) will host its 187th public meeting, focused on the ongoing BIFAD-commissioned study on systemic solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation in agricultural, nutrition, and food systems. Registration is open for this October 26th meeting, and the public is invited to comment on preliminary findings.
