Illustrative Training Results
Since 2011, more than 900 USAID staff from 72 missions around the world have participated in online and face-to-face Global Climate Change (GCC) courses. In addition, more than 230 implementing partners and 80 other U.S. Government (USG) staff have attended GCC trainings. In total, USAID has delivered more than 25,000 person hours of training to USAID, other USG and implementing partner staff. (Person hours is calculated by multiplying instruction hours of training by the number of people completing each training.)
In 2014, 30% of staff attending GCC courses were environment specialists and 70% had specialties in other areas such as agriculture and health, illustrating the growing demand for climate change capacity building across development sectors at USAID.
In addition to these data, USAID is also tracking information related to course learning objectives and skills application. A readout from the July 2015 GCC core courses is provided below as an example.

How you intend to apply what you learned during the course to your work:
- I plan to continue to advocate for climate change considerations to be included in policy documents and Country Development and Cooperation Strategies.
- Articulating climate change stressors, vulnerabilities in project cycle; communicating the importance of climate change to development.
- Look at Project Appraisal Documents etc. to see where they can integrate climate change.
- Assist project teams with identifying financial ramifications associated with vulnerabilities and impacts.
- Write scopes of work for climate-smart agriculture USAID-funded projects.
- Share and enlighten others in the mission about activities that contribute to Global Climate Change goals.
- Look for ways to promote climate change mitigation into other programming.
