Belarus has a relatively uniform climate with abundant water resources and forests. Temperatures and weather have begun to diverge from historical patterns, straining the country's built and natural environment systems. Rising temperatures will likely change forest composition and ecosystem functions, as well as increase energy demand as cooling needs rise. Extreme rain and flooding events may deteriorate water quality, particularly as runoff may alter the distribution of radionuclides left over from the 1986 Chernobyl accident. These factors increase risks to human health, particularly for those already living with chronic diseases. Changing climate conditions may create both beneficial and harmful impacts for Belarus' agriculture sector, with potential for longer growing seasons but limited crop productivity. Belarus' greenhouse gas emissions are dominated by the energy sector, with a notable net carbon sink in the land use change and forestry sector.
