Adaptation Community Meeting: Strengthening Adaptation Planning in Mozambican Coastal Cities

At this month's Adaptation Community Meeting, CCAP's Chief of Party, Maria Olanda Bata, will discuss the project's work assisting the development of local adaptation plans (Planos Locais de Adaptação - PLAs) for two coastal municipalities in Mozambique. PLAs determine the municipalities’ priorities for addressing anticipated impacts and identify the action needed. The presentation will explore how these plans serve to strengthen local-level adaptation efforts and response mechanisms, and how to integrate efforts into broader planning and management processes. Further, the presentation will illustrate the importance of a participatory approach in adaptation planning. By convening key stakeholders to discuss challenges and evaluate the city’s vulnerabilities and limitations, municipalities are better able to articulate significant challenges, identify initiatives to improve resilience, and prioritize interventions.

Maria Olanda Bata, is a food security, early warning and disaster risk reduction specialist with more than 15 years experience working in the development sector with governmental, academic, and international organizations from Mozambique, southern Africa, and the United States. Prior to serving as CCAP's Chief of Party, she served as country representative and national technical manager for USAID’s Famine Early Warning System Network project where she successfully managed several USAID issued projects on livelihoods, disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction, and worked in partnership with governmental, non-governmental, and academic institutions to support policy formulation and guide the development agenda in Mozambique.
