We’re in an age of urgency. Yes, investment in the energy transition hit a record high in 2023, overtaking fossil fuels and reaching US $1.8 trillion. And some governments, organizations and businesses are doing incredible work to speed up climate action like incentivizing renewable energy deployment or fostering innovation in zero-carbon materials
However, the world also continues to grapple with extreme weather events, with 2024 starting out as the hottest year ever recorded and greenhouse gas emissions not really coming down. We’re simply not going fast enough - yet.
That’s why Climate Week NYC is returning with an urgent message: It’s Time.
Catalyzing Urgent Action
Every September, Climate Group organizes Climate Week NYC, gathering tens of thousands of people to drive climate action. Together, we challenge the status quo, create ideas, influence, inspire, and energize each other.
In 2023, our focus was to push forward with relentless determination. Climate Week NYC 2024 will be all about driving concrete action, together, pushing the transition into the mainstream.
We will host business leaders, grassroot activists, heads of governments and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, all bound by the same rallying call: It’s Time.
And it’s urgent. With 2030 fast approaching, the need to halve emissions becomes ever more pressing if we want to keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C. At COP29 and COP30, we also need to develop concrete plans for climate finance. Without this, we are simply undermining global efforts to combat climate change.
The message is clear:
It’s Time to phase out fossil fuels and invest in clean energy infrastructure.
It’s Time to embed climate action into national and subnational government policies.
It’s Time to level the playing field for all countries and ensure equitable access to climate finance.
In short, It’s Time.
