Recommendations for Preparing Distributed Energy Resources Roadmaps and Plans
Participation Eligibility
Distributed energy resources (DER) include distributed generation, smart transmission and distribution grids, energy storage, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, demand response, and energy efficiency. DER create major new opportunities for cost savings, service reliability and quality improvements, and reductions of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from electricity. However, DER integration and bidirectional flows of electricity increase operational complexity for utilities, power markets, and end users. In 2020, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Order 2222 required wholesale power markets in the United States to allow equitable participation and fair remuneration for DER services.
DER roadmaps and plans can help government planners and regulators, utilities, and other stakeholders make better decisions on distributed energy investment and use. The Climate Economic Analysis for Development, Investment, and Resilience (CEADIR) Activity recently completed a report with recommendations for preparation of a DER roadmap or plan, including a three-phase process and resources for data collection and analysis. It draws on the experiences of U.S. utilities, regulatory agencies, and market operators that have participated in state or regional DER roadmaps and plans in the U.S., Colombia, Mexico, and Vietnam.
Please join CEADIR and Climatelinks for a joint event on December 10, 2020 to explore the findings and recommendations of this report. This will be the sixth event in a series highlighting research products from CEADIR’s final year.
SPEAKERS
