Caribbean Investment Program (CIP)

USAID’s Caribbean Investment Program (CIP) is a comprehensive, Caribbean-centric platform for equipping entrepreneurs and financiers to more effectively close deals that increase the region’s economic growth, energy transition, and resilience to natural disasters.

CIP focuses on helping entrepreneurs to become investment-ready, breaking the regional cycle of financiers struggling to establish deal flow that meets their requirements while finance seekers fail to secure capital that meets their needs. At the same time, it also helps financial institutions to identify green, resilient investment opportunities that meet their requirements and priorities.

CIP integrates four typically independent mechanisms – business development support, grants, technical assistance, and network building – to create an ecosystem of services for entrepreneurs to strengthen their investment readiness of finance seekers and facilitate matchmaking with finance providers.

  • Business development support: CIP’s project preparation facility (PPF) acts as a comprehensive resource for entrepreneurs throughout the pre-investment cycle. It provides business advisory, investment facilitation, and deal structuring services to entrepreneurs with promising energy and adaptation ventures who are interested in achieving investment-readiness.
  • Grants: CIP awards grants to accelerate the deployment of energy and adaptation ventures that have the potential to mobilize private finance. This funding supports entrepreneurs at costly junctures – such as undertaking pre-feasibility and feasibility studies – that are necessary for proving project viability.
  • Technical assistance: CIP offers discrete technical assistance to help finance seekers and finance providers address specific challenges in mobilizing and making investments.
  • Network building: Building connections between finance seekers, finance providers, and initiatives in this space and region to establish a more transparent and collaborative ecosystem of resources.

If you would like to learn more about engaging with CIP, we invite you to register for our virtual office hours. Timeslots will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

CIP is an activity under USAID’s Sustainable Investment Accelerator (SIA), USAID’s flagship initiative to increase sustainable investment in emerging markets and developing economies.
