Welcome to a new edition of the quarterly Amazon Regional Environment Program (AREP) newsletter. One year has passed since the launch of the USAID Climate Strategy 2022–2030. During this period, USAID has taken action to combat deforestation, conserve biodiversity, create environmentally friendly economic opportunities, and support Indigenous rights.

In recognition of the first year of the climate strategy and in celebration of the upcoming World Environment Day, this newsletter shines a light on various USAID initiatives in the region, such as SERVIR-Amazonia’s work with women farmers in Brazil who are now able to monitor land changes and plan their agroforestry production through an application on their mobile phones.

Also worth noting is the work of Amazonia Connect in Colombia to promote low- carbon agriculture and the work of the Indigenous Kichwa women of Chambira in Ecuador who, through weaving and handicrafts, maintain their traditions and improve their income in a sustainable way.
