Case Study: Ideas for a Resilient Future in the Limpopo River Basin - Middle Olifants - Former Lebowa Homeland Area (South Africa)
December 2016
RESILIM Program
This case study presents an overview of how climate change will affect the Middle Olifants in South Africa and opportunities for action. A few opportunities for action include: identifying alternative economic growth and livelihoods, promoting sustainable and climate-smart development, improving soil water conservation, and strengthening the governance of water resources and infrastructure.
This case study features one of eight Resilience Action Areas described in the Risk, Vulnerability & Resilience in the Limpopo River Basin report and was produced by the USAID funded Resilience in the Limpopo River basin Program (RESILIM) and the LIMPOPO Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM). RESILIM activities and initiatives focus on the relationship between climate change, biodiversity, water and livelihoods. The program works with local non-government organisations to improve and diversify livelihoods in order to build communities’ resilience to climate change impacts by creating sustainable, conservation-based, income-generating opportunities.
