CEADIR Series: How Co-Benefits Have Unlocked Climate Financing

Many analyses show that greenhouse gas mitigation investments can have important environmental, health, or other economic or social co-benefits that can reduce or even outweigh the net costs within a country. For example, urban public transportation improvements can decrease carbon emissions and reduce mortality and chronic illnesses from conventional air pollutants.

Another important aspect of co-benefits has received less attention—how their inclusion can help unlock public and private sector climate financing, international and domestic, for climate change mitigation and adaptation actions.

In this CEADIR Series discussion, Dr. Eric Hyman (USAID) explains types of co-benefits and how different market intervention approaches can affect climate change investments. Dr. Tulika Narayan (Abt Associates) presents sustainable landscape and clean energy environmental valuation analyses from Indonesia, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.
