EC-LEDS Overview Fact Sheet
It notes that developing countries face the challenge of reaching growth targets under the threat of climate change. Through EC-LEDS partnerships with 20 countries, the U.S. is helping them to reach these targets on a low-emissions pathway.
EC-LEDS provides targeted technical assistance that includes developing national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories; cultivating policies that lower GHG emissions while encouraging growth in key sectors; and encouraging investment and financing in clean energy.
It is also developing a global knowledge base for low emission planning and implementation. This includes the LEDS Global Partnership, which brings together more than 110 countries, institutions and civil society organizations to share experiences and successes. It also facilitates technical exchanges and has created toolkits with planning resources.
EC-LEDS assistance is tailored to address the specific climate change strategies and national development priorities of each partner country. In Mexico, for example, the program has supported the development of a roadmap for integrating clean energy into its electricity grid.
