Forest-PLUS Tools and Methods, Achievements to Date
This report summarizes the tools, techniques and methods that Forest-PLUS has developed to support India’s successful implementation of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), an international mechanism for climate change mitigation, livelihoods improvement, and biodiversity protection.
Forest-PLUS has developed tools to improve forest planning and management, forest health, and the enabling environment. Tools include the Integrated Forest Management Toolbox (IFMT) which is comprised of components like a mobile application for data collection and a consultation model to facilitate decision-making based on trade-offs between ecosystem services. Techniques include introducing fuel-saving technologies like solar water heaters and smokeless bio-briquettes as well as refining the method for direct seeding of oak species. Capacity building, leveraging partnerships, institutional development, and communications campaigns are also ways in which Forest-PLUS has supported India’s bilateral goals for the REDD+ program.
