Info Note: How countries plan to address agricultural adaptation and mitigation
An analysis of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions
Meryl Richards, et al.
This info note examines the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) in relation to how Parties include agriculture in their adaptation and mitigation strategies. As explained in the brief, agricultural sub-sectors are generally well represented in the INDCs and Parties recognize that adaptation and mitigation can go hand in hand.
Included in the info note are sections covering agricultural adaptation measures (including overviews of adaptation technologies and support), agricultural mitigation measures, policies for agricultural adaptation and mitigation, capacity building, technology transfer and finance, issues concerning social inequality and food security
The info note concludes that despite historical challenges to including agriculture in official climate change negotiations, submitted INDCs underline countries’ priority to determine and address agricultural adaptation and mitigation at the national level.
