Innovative Tools to Manage Healthy Indian Forests
This document provides an overview of the tools and materials that have been collaboratively developed through Forest-PLUS, a partnership between India’s foresters and government and the United States Government, to foster an ecosystem approach to forest management. The materials support Indian forest managers in understanding the required theory and the tools support the planning and management for ecosystems.
The Forest-PLUS Learning Management System (LMS) is an online learning platform for professionals and students interested in the forestry sector and contains courses and latest developments and best practices related to the forest sector. The Forest-PLUS Integrated Forest Management Toolbox (IFMT) assists officials of the forest department to operationalize the Indian National Working Plan Code, which sets the requirements for forest management plans in India. Forest-PLUS has also developed innovative tools that allow for better analysis of forest degradation and data collection in the field. These tools have overall benefited the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, allowing it to extend its reach through LMS, and helped others monitor forest coverage and stocks.
