Land Cover for Climate Initiative
The Department of the Interior International Technical Assistance Program’s (DOI-ITAP) Land Cover for Climate (LC4Climate) project aims to enhance the capacity of developing country partners to improve techniques to generate and/or update existing land cover information using satellite imagery. Land cover and land use data are critical components for climate monitoring applications such as: Greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reports; Monitoring emissions from deforestation (UN REDD+); and Low emission development strategies (LEDS). With funding from USAID' s Global Climate Change program, DOI-ITAP serves as facilitator to promote effective relationships and technical expertise to develop integrated land cover data to monitor climate change. The LC4Climate homepage details the objectives and approach of the initiative, the activities that have been conducted under the project in Africa and Southeast Asia, and a list of partners. The website also offers a library of the workshops that have been conducted and an info sheet.
