Mapping the Exposure of Socioeconomic and Natural Systems of West Africa to Coastal Climate Stressors: Guide to Poster Maps

This poster map guide gives an overview of data, methods, and results to accompany poster-sized maps that are part of a USAID climate vulnerability study of West Africa.

In that study, the authors identify patterns of exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity that contribute to vulnerability. A Website listed in this report provides PDF versions of the poster maps in French and English along with a summary and full report detailing assumptions, methods and data. 
 

The first set represents mangroves in relation to the low-elevation coastal zone and deforestation from 2000 to 2012. 
 
The second represents a social vulnerability index for the 200 kilometers adjacent to the coastline in relation to the low-elevation coastal zone. 
 
And the third focuses on a subset of cities that have large populations and extensive infrastructure that are exposed to sea-level rise and storm surge.
