PES Study Tour to Lam Dong, Vietnam
This trip report covers a study tour in February 2012 that allowed Thai officials and representatives to review information about payment for environmental services (PES) that has been successfully carried out in Vietnam. The purpose of the tour and this report is to show the link between environmental services and the benefits it has for livelihoods and economic development processes.
The three objectives of the study tour include: 1) to learn about the payment for environmental services concept as implemented in Vietnam, 2) to explore and understand about the process of development and implementation of payment for environmental services in Vietnam, and 3) to share lessons learned as well as the challenges for implementing payment for environmental services in Vietnam.
This report can be of use to organizations designing similar programs or learning tours, and outlines lessons from within the Asian forests and environmental services sectors when it comes to lowering emissions. It details daily activities complete with the sites toured and topics discussed, as well as feedback from the Thai participants. Several speakers were invited to present and a detailed list with names, titles, and organizations is included for future reference.
