Supporting Sustainable Economic Development in Gabon
This fact sheet takes a look at the Enhancing Capacity for Low Emission Development Strategies (EC-LEDS) program and its support to Gabon in developing a national land use plan to support sustainable management of many natural resource sectors. Gabon and the United States are working together to implement the LEDS laid out in Gabon’s climate plan, which includes improving coordination among the country’s partners and stakeholders and building capacity to assess and compare the climate impacts of proposed sector development scenarios.
Two key components of LEDS in Gabon is identifying sustainable development pathways and improving forest and land-use planning. Several notable accomplishments have been achieved through the EC-LEDS program, including improved coordination among LEDS stakeholders, measured and monitored forest carbon, coordinated land-use planning efforts, and assessed public sector emissions and energy efficiency opportunities.
