USAID South Africa Low Emissions Development Program Lessons Learned Report
Developed and implemented in partnership with the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) and the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), the SA-LED program aimed to support the Government of South Africa’s green growth agenda. Specifically, it seeks to strengthen the capacity of the public sector to plan, finance, implement, and report on low emissions development projects. Over the course of its five-year life span, the Program has made meaningful achievements. For example, SA-LED has provided technical assistance to nearly 30 projects that will reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions by more than 820,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. This report explores lessons learned from implementing the program over its five years of implementation throughout South Africa.
