ARCC - African and Latin American Resilience to Climate Change

ARCC promoted climate change adaptation and its integration into development policies, programs, and investments in Africa and Latin America to support sustainable, climate-resilient growth. The project delivered technical and analytical assistance, as well as capacity building to improve the ability of vulnerable populations to respond to climate change. It also strengthened scientific and evidence-based approaches and tools for local stakeholders to participate in decision-making, and to share adaptation learning.

Technical assistance covered areas such as institutional strengthening, policy development, water issues, conflict, and farming practices. ARCC tested climate change vulnerability assessment methodologies, and completed multi-sectoral and multi-scale vulnerability assessments for 7 countries and several regional assessments for the Sahel and West Africa. Findings were presented to key government and civil society decision makers, and USAID missions are using the assessments to inform climate change adaptation in the areas of agriculture, food security, biodiversity, coastal and ecosystem resources, economic development, and health.
