This adaptation fact sheet provides an overview of sector vulnerabilities and adaptation actions for East Africa. The East Africa region is comprised of the countries of Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Climate variability is already affecting Zambia, and projected climate change impacts include rises in temperature, shifts in precipitation, and possible increases in the frequency and intensity of weather events.

Climate risks pose serious threats to Kenya’s sustainable development goals and development gains. With the largest economy in East Africa and a population of 54 million, Kenya serves as the region’s financial, trade, and communications hub. The country’s economy is largely dependent on rainfed agriculture, tourism and natural resources, sectors that are susceptible to climate variability and change and extreme weather events.

Guatemala continues to struggle with elevated exposure to natural hazards and the effects of climate change, including higher temperatures and more variable rainfall that increase the risk of food and water insecurity among the country’s most vulnerable.
