Kenya being 85% arid and semi-arid depends on livestock production as one of the key economic drivers. In this respect, it is important to proactively produce adequate animal feed to avoid huge loses experienced during droughts and famine. Grasses and legumes are fast growing while at the same time providing key nutrients needed by animals. Lukenya University, Alliance Bioversity and CIAT are working to ensure agro-ecologically suitable grasses and legumes are produced for arid and semi-arid regions.
