This working paper summarizes current knowledge concerning the relationship between investment in agriculture and the conversion of forest lands. It describes approaches to agricultural production commonly proposed to reduce the likelihood that agricultural investment will result in the conversion of forest land.

USAID’s development assistance in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean (ESC) region extends to 11 countries: Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
